Rapid Transit - Friday, September 30
I've been a huge fan of rapid transit systems since my first ride on one. I've been hearing and reading good things about bringing some of that technology to the states, FINALLY. I keep thinking a sweet link would be between San Francisco and Los Angeles. So once I hit it big I'm investing. Looks like the rapid transit might hit one of my favourite cities, Las Vegas. Was reading this article about rapid transit in Las Vegas (in German) and seems like things are on the move.
Pouring
So ye, when it rains it pours. The weather outside is finally starting to show its fall face. Rain today for the first time in a pretty long stretch. Not only the rain, but work has been about the same as well - LOTS of it. I've been trying to take more photography gigs as opposed to design jobs lately, but since taking on both I've been getting slammed by my clients all wanting stuff at the same time. Hmmm, desicions, desicions.
Mobile Rant - Thursday, September 29
WTF? I would figure that it being 2005 and all that mobile providers should have all the kinks in their system worked out. But no, they don't and I'm not sure at this point they ever will. I mean, isn't it how everything works, the more the supply the more competition and thus the better the service/product? Apparently not in the world of the mobile. I'm currently looking for an alternate to mobile service that doesn't support a huge nasty corporation that could really give a fuck about their customers. Take a look at this graph and see how much the mobile industry sucks. Is it surprising how's at the top of the list?
Snow? - Tuesday, September 27
Do I smell snow? I could swear on my trip back from Seattle I could see some nice white patches of snow up on Mt. Rainier. Now that fall is kicking in I'm looking for the white fluffy stuff to start falling soon. Mt. Hood has been looking pretty gray for the past couple of months and with more sun in Portland, I'm thinking it's going to be that way for awhile. As you can tell I'm all about extremes, either super-hot and desert like or fuckin-cold and arctic like. Still working on getting to like the transitions.
August Skies - Saturday, September 17
So sad to see you leave. As summer begins to fade I can't help but dream of another endless summer. It's been a couple of years now since I've made the trek, around this time of year, to the southern hemisphere to experience summer all over again. The cool wind blowing from the Gorge and into Portland is once again upon us. Ahhh, just when I was getting used to warm sunny days, wearing nothing but shorts, weekend naps in the sun, and beach days spent in the comfort of shade. Not ready for the wardrobe shift nor the falling leaves. The good news is that this time of year always gives me travel-fever. So for the next few days I'll be spinning the globe looking for the next destination. Somewhere warm.
Medium Format Digital - Friday, September 9
Haven't been too excited about digital camera releases in the late months, but Hasselblad steps it up and spits out a newbie amoung the ranks. Just when I thought I was falling the for the H1, the H2D comes out with some hot new features and will soon take over while Hasselblad continues to blaze the trail for high-end digital, or will someone else drop into the game?
Time-Based Art
PICA in Portland kicked off last night their week of performance art around the city. In its 3rd year the festival has attracted the likes of Daniel Bernard Roumain with his violin, collaborating with DJ Spooky for a night of music bliss. There's much more than music, so make sure to stop by one night and see the rest the friends of PICA have to offer. On another art note, stop by the Cooley Gallery at Reed College for their current exhibition involving photography from the archives of the Arab Image Foundation based in Beirut, Lebanon. I still haven't been, but will check it out this weekend and spew some of its highlights.
Moo-Moo - Tuesday, September 6
MOO Management has offices in the US and Germany, they represent some great photographers including the stunning Michael Muller, the fabulous studio pro Kent Larsson and the always beautiful Karina Taira. I could spend hours going through the works of these three. Looking forward to more from the kids at MOO.
Dunderdon - Thursday, September 1
For all my NY friends, family and everyone else into fashionably well made clothing, listen up. This coming week, on September 4th from 7pm til 10pm, Dunderdon will be celebrating their new NYC store opening. Their space is located at 270 Lafayette Street, NY 10012. Their men's clothing line is tough to beat and well worth the clams. I'm sure there'll be lots of action and great vibes.
More of what's new.
