Paramount Pictures executive Robert Evans narrates the autobiographical film entitled:
The Kid Stays in the Picture. A current running documentary on HBO. A great film about the rise and fall of the Hollywood tides plus the struggle to produce quality work. The only critique I would have is that Robert Evans voice is so very monotone; I'm really not into the whole Hollywood scene but his story is a good one.
This long weekend has allowed us all to recharge our batteries, beginning now to push ahead with more design work and updates. To get there, you have to get there. Stay tuned.

More importantly, Ani Phyo of
SmartMonkey Media has just released her new book
Return on Design, Smarter Web Design That Works. A great book breaking down the process in creating some of the most usable and popular sites on the web. Despite the so-called dot-com bust, the fact is that more people use the Web - and more companies rely on it - than ever before. But to succeed in today's cost-conscious economy, Web producers must use fewer resources to create effective, usable sites that return on the client's financial investment.
Game developer Monolith Productions is cranking away as we speak on what looks to be an amazing game.
Tron 2.0 is expected to come out August 2003. The trailers look pretty good.
Lots of great 3D stuff happening over at
Nvidia.

VonZipper hooks it up.

Infodrome is a new think tank sponsored by the Dutch government to stimulate debate about government policy on information and communication technology. Its house style, designed by the Amsterdam-based duo Maureen Mooren and Daniel van der Velden, is a delightful throwback to early eighties computer information graphics. Check out this article by Metropolis Magazine.
The Mazda RX-8 and the X-Men Car. Finally seeing Mazda doing something cool, at least cool for them. In the Mutation Station section you can create some pretty interesting body styles. Too bad you can't customize your own car with these add-ons. In the Vehicle Showroom you can see photos of the car plus the stars of the film, including Kelly Hu.

A couple new photo galleries up here at Decibel Dragon. In the Photo.Spotlights section there is New.City.Sites, photos around Portland, Southland.Days, documents some great locales in southern California, and In.LosAngeles is just about finished and will be up soon.
Rock climbing news. Travelling this morning from Portland to LosAngeles we were flying directly over the Yosemite Valley and could clearly see Half Dome covered in snow. It looks like this season might get a bit of a late start in Northern California. I think a trip out to Joshua Tree is in order as soon as the west coast snaps this unseasonably cool weather. Some like it hot.

Congratulations to the team at Adaptive Radiation for the launch of
ANIMAL NEW YORK, a great magazine. 09 May 2003, this Friday night, things kick off with a killer
launch party and showing of 33artists work. Maybe you've seen the posters, maybe you might be interested, if you're in the area, be sure and stop in.
Megen Ming Lee, moving fashion in the right direction. Love their stuff.

I seem to have run into some very talented illustrators lately. John Jakubowski has some nice pieces up on his site:
wombat | creative. It's all about the touches of humanism he continually puts into illustration and design.
Popbot World. Comics and Illustration straight from the mind of Ashley Wood, Popbot features an eclectic cast of characters including a rock-star kitty cat, his robot bodyguard, Sherlock Holmes, Andy Warhol, and sexy groupies.
As we all await the release of The Matrix Reloaded, here's a great article from Time,
Unlocking the Matrix.
Counterspace, a web site dedicated to typography and its history. A nice breakdown for younger designers wanted to learn more about typography.
A new addition to some of my more mellow music tastes:
Afro-Mystik has a new album, produced by DJ Fluid and is titled Morphology. Fusing the rhythms of many cultures into one, presenting the evolution of global rhythms and future soul.
Just arrived back in LosAngeles after a beautiful weekend in SanFrancisco. Met up with lots of friends, went to
Millennium for some excellent food, hungout at the Top on Haight, enjoyed city views from Red Rock and stopped by Herbivore on Valencia as well. We also had some east bay action staying in Oakland with Max and a nice walk around Lake Merrit. While missing some of the urban lifestyle in SF, I am looking forward to spending time in Portland during the summer. Good to see everyone and if we didn't connect this weekend I'll be back soon.
